How an Automatic Standby System Works

Automatic standby power systems consist of a generator and an automatic transfer switch.  The transfer switch is connected to both the generator and the utility power supply.When the built-in generator controller senses a loss of utility power, the generator automatically starts, the transfer switch disconnects the utility and allows power from the generator to flow to the home.  When the utility is back on line, the transfer switch disconnects the generator and restores utility power to the home.
